4 Tips for Beginner Hikers

4 tips to get the most out of your hikes!

( This post has been sponsored by Reebok, but all opinions are our own. )

1. Pack the right clothing

Never underestimate the power of a good sports bra. When you’re hot and sweaty on the trail, the last thing you want is something that’s too tight or rubbing you in the wrong way. One of my favourite new sports bras is the Reebok PureMove bra. It’s designed to conform to your movements and
is literally award winning, the first of its kind. It’s easy to see why, because when I’m wearing it, it honestly barely feels like it’s there!

This hike was done in 30 degree Celsius heat and I wouldn’t have wanted to be wearing anything else. Fabric matters so much in sportswear: it needs to be comfortable, breathable and lightweight so make sure what you’re packing checks all those boxes! This applies to leggings as well. 2. Bring more water and food than you need

It’s best practice to bring at least 2L of water with you, even if it’s a short hike. Especially if it’s hot. We’ve been on hikes less than 2km but because it was so hot outside, we ended up chugging all our water before
we made it back. Pack foods that give you energy – chia is great for this. Apples are another one of our favourite hiking snacks.

3. Start early

I have never regretted getting up early for a hike. There are a few reasons for this:
(a) the lighting is better for photos
(b) the sun is less harsh! It’s hottest mid-day and the UV rays are more intense.
(c) less people are out. This can make a huge difference if you’re on a less developed trail or one that has plenty
of exposure.

4. Research the trail before you go

It’s best practice to look for trail reports and updates so you know when bridges are washed out, when trails are closed or how to find the best trailhead (sometimes there are more than one or it’s extremely hard to find).

Have fun, but be safe and respectful to the environment and others.
Hiking is an incredible workout, and you get amazing views as a reward on top of the endorphin rush. But while you’re out in nature, make sure you remember to go prepared and practice proper trail etiquette. Happy adventuring!
