Last Sunday lunchtime we were doing some odd jobs near 17th and decided to grab a bite to eat nearby. It was a pretty cold and grim day so we figured a nice warm curry would be perfect. It wasn’t long before we spotted the sign for Khao San Thai Kitchen. The reviews on Zomato were pretty good, so we couldn’t resist giving it a go.
Compared to the unassuming and somewhat dated exterior, we were pleasantly surprised by the classy interior, and the quiet atmosphere. Once we were seated, we ordered a round of Thai iced teas and checked out the lunchtime menu. If you haven’t had one of these yet, it’s definitely worth trying! They’re super, super sweet, and a slightly disturbing orange colour, but utterly delicious!

The lunchtime menu meals ranged between $12 and $16 depending on whether you included protein, and we ordered a delicious variety of dishes.
We had the Thai Green Curry ($12), the tofu Pad Thai Koong Sod ($15), and the Khao Soi Gai ($16).

The delicious Green curry definitely gets a thumbs up, but be warned, it’s pretty spicy (as expected). The Khao Soi Gai, on the other hand, was pretty mild. The Khao Soi Gai was a creamy, yellow curry noodle soup that I haven’t seen before; it tasted amazing (loads of rich flavours and spices) and was beautifully presented. Definitely going to order that again! The Pad Thai was also fantastic (you can’t go wrong with Pad Thai)- nice crispy tofu as well 🙂

Khao San was truly a hidden gem on 17th, and we’re very glad we gave it a try. We’d wholeheartedly recommend paying them a visit. Whilst we can’t vouch for the dinner just yet, we’re guessing it’s going to quickly become one of our regular spots once those cold winter nights start rolling in!
